Collection Spotlight: EsoTeros
TLDR: Unfortunately in our lives must we all deal with bad people, and even worse, these people and their negative energy often find a way to weasel into our mind. It’s almost like an earworm, but instead of music getting stuck in our head — it’s bad vibes. This collections reclaims your power over these negative people by turning them into art.

It’s an absolute shame that the assholes in our lives get to live rent free in our heads. You could be having an absolutely top-tier day — beautiful weather, exciting plans, and great friends to spend it with — yet one person can ruin it all in a moment. Maybe you got cut-off and flicked-off in traffic. Maybe you get blatantly cut in line at a store. Maybe someone shoves you to the side on the sidewalks and then tells YOU to watch where you’re going.
The audacity… who do these people think they are?
That phrase is cliché, but I can guarantee you’ll be thinking that exact thought when it happens. I can also guarantee that these same people will be serving up an eviction notice to all of the good vibes in your head, and they’ll be moving themselves in just as quickly. As much as you’d like to let it go and return to your high-quality day from before — it’s just not gonna happen. These interactions have a way of getting stuck in our head, weaseling their way right up next to wherever anger and frustration live in the brain.
Sometimes it isn’t even someone random. I’m sure we all have a few people in our lives who’ve got to be sleeping on some sort of defective mattress with how often they seem to wake up on the wrong side of the bed in the morning. These are the people that make you dread going to work or to a dinner or to anywhere else that you’re lives unfortunately have to cross paths.
These are also the people that inspired artist EsoTeros to create what he’s coined — ‘Humonsters’. Inspired by all of the bad people he meets in his life, turning these people into art is what has allowed him to cope with the distastefulness of the people that pop up into his life. For example…
EsoTeros is a man of many skills. When he’s not creating digital art he also dabbles in some other creative forms — like being a rock musician. Nothing seems like a more high-energy, exciting experience than commanding a crowd at a rock club. Unfortunately one of his favorite club’s to perform at is cursed with the duality of being an absolute killer venue while also having an absolute vibe-killer as the owner.
This lady is unkind to her workers, toxic to her bartenders, and never satisfied with the performances of musicians. Some say she’s never once even smiled. EsoTeros comes back to this place to perform because of how much he loves the venue, but he’s forced to endure the constant negativity of this club owner each and every time. So he decided to deal with her the one way he knew how — by turning her into art. He took in his image of her and recreated her in his mind using jarring colors and shapes. When it was all said and done, he had converted her into an artistic spectacle that allowed him to actually feel good about her being such a difficult person.
Turning someone into art might not be everyone’s first thought when meeting someone they dislike, but it’s no surprise coming from someone like EsoTeros. The artist is gifted with synesthesia, a phenomenon that allows him to experience some of his senses through another. He described is as almost a collage of sensation, with his perception of shapes, colors, tastes, and music all overlapping. They all smoothly translate between each other. He can taste the number 6 and sees the color green whenever he hears the sound of a cello. The mixing of senses can become a sensory overload of the very best kind.
This experience of a sensory overload definitely finds its way into the art of this collection. The art shocks you at first glance. The vivid movements and color that define each piece require a more intense viewing effort from the audience to truly take in what lies in front of them. Only after the initial surprise fades away will the incredible details of each piece begin to reveal themselves. What initially might look like a quite spontaneous creation is truly a carefully crafted and heavily detailed piece of art. The story of each piece becomes a mystery to dissect for the audience. As with many artists, EsoTeros prefers to leave much of the interpretation up to the viewer.
As an artist, he finds himself to be very particular about his creations. He says this often goes as far as having to draw and redraw each line 10+ times until he gets the one that feels right. His distinct style has grown out of his background in industrial design in tandem with the inspirations of countless artists that have influenced him. Studying industrial design gave him great insight into how shapes, forms, and colors combine in composition. His fascinations with the works of other artists filled in the rest of the blind spots in his creative prospects. With his mind almost overflowing with artistic potential at this point, he began to experiment with creating his own style. Similarly to how each of his senses overlap to create a single yet complex sensory experience for EsoTeros, it is clear that his Humonster creations are an overlapping of many influences and inspirations that he’s able to combine into one elaborate yet succinct art piece.
As his journey with the project has progressed, his art has evolved with it. He is constantly experimenting with new things. New color combinations, shapes, and textures can be found each time he releases a new 1/1 piece to the collection. He’s even recreated some people he actually likes in some of his most recent works. This is what keeps him fresh and energized about the project. He has the flexibility to try new things, and the fans of his art have embraced this. Like many artists in this fairly young space, his journey with art did not begin with NFTs. However, this space has helped to grow a vibrant community of collectors and fans that support EsoTeros and his work.
That’s the beauty of this place he finds himself in now. No matter how many bad people he interacts with in his day-to-day life, he’s now got an entire fanbase backing him and making sure the good vibes of the Avalanche community are the ones that get to live rent free in his head instead.
