TLDR: Sometimes it’s ok to keep things simple… and cute. This is one of those times.

We’ve got an obsession.
Cats, dogs, otters, pandas…you name it. If they’re cute — we simply can’t get enough. It’s some sort of natural reaction that lives deep down in our DNA. It’s as intrinsic a response as our desire for food or our lust for a partner. When we see something cute, a gravitational force grabs a hold of us and pulls us right in.
Think back to the earliest days of YouTube or even just the internet in general. It was dominated by cat videos. The New York Times even called cats “an essential building block of the internet”. That’s not surprising either. Back when the internet was a place for only the most technically savvy users, they needed something with a blackhole-esque force to pull the rest of the world into the system…
a.k.a. cute cats — that’s what we needed.
Now with web3, its almost as if we’re running back through this exact scenario again. If you’re capable of operating a wallet at even it’s simplest form, you look like a technical genius to the majority of the world. A year ago that was even more true than today. We’ve started to make a little progress. The last year has seen a huge increase in users across blockchains, so what was the key difference maker over that time period?
It was NFT’s. You may not have understood the internet 30 years ago, but you understood cat pictures. Similarly, you may not have understood blockchains a year ago, but you surely can understand a quality piece of digital art. That scenario played out for millions of people within the last year with a huge onboarding of new users. History is repeating itself except… where are the cats?
Worry not, anon. Avalanche now has its very own project that’s working to bring back the fun of cats on the internet — Ava Cute Animals. Keeping things simple here, the name says it all. This is a collection of super cute animals (including cats of course).
Like the name, the art itself is quite simple in the very best way. You don’t need super complicated art to activate the cute receptors in the brain. A few simple lines and well-chosen colors can create a quite uncomplicated viewing experience. You look at the art and you’re immediately drawn in by the cuteness. It’s as easy as that. After you toss in a bit of animation to these cute animals, you’ll surely wish you could take one of these home with you.
The artist behind Ava Cute Animals tells it to us straight when they say, “I love cute animals, so I’m drawing cute animals”. That’s all that’s really needed as well. Not every NFT project needs an ambitious roadmap or a lofty underlying message to dissect. Sometimes art that can make people smile is all that’s necessary to bring some good energy to the NFT community. This project fits that bill.
I also think the attitude of the artist behind this collection is one that can bring a lot of good to the space. They had experience making art, specifically painting and drawing game illustrations. They’ve gottten inspiration from daily life and the internet. Then they draw things that they want to draw and put their work out their for others to enjoy. No stress. All fun.
Avalanche is the perfect place for artists to take a chance and share their work just like this. I’m sure there are countless artists out there that are watching the NFT space from the sidelines. Whatever the reason is for not diving in yet, this collection might provide some inspiration to just try it. No stress. All fun.
The Avalanche NFT community is still growing up right now. It’s still a relatively small and tight-knit group right now compared to the likes of Ethereum and Solana. This type of environment has spurred the creation of some great communities and great connections between artists and collectors. Each time a collector buys an NFT from a new artist, they’re giving that artist validation and exciting them with the prospect of making more art. I’ve heard countless stories of these interactions, and they’re always so positive for both artist and collector. That’s the type of energy that makes Avalanche a great place.
It’s exciting that Ava Cute Animals has decided to make Avalanche their home. This collection is already full of a bunch of cute pieces that would brighten up any NFT collector’s gallery, but the artist wanted to use this opportunity to reveal a bit of what’s to come (hint — it’s more cute animals). Soon you might be able to spice up your collection with some cold-climate animals, musically themed animals, and even some pixel style animals.
I’ll let your imagination run wild a bit with all the cute possibilities…
